If you're buying an older caravan I wouldn't join the Caravan Club, the Camping & Caravanning Club would be a better bet.
There are plenty of C&CC certified sites around at a tenner a night and the weekend rallies are great, cheap and can be a really good way to find out everything that you need to know about caravanning.

I know of a caravan being offered for sale in the Midlands from somebody off another forum and everything that you would need to start off with is included, I think that he wants about £2500 for the caravan which he reckons is in good nick with no damp.

If you want to have a look at it let me know and I'll look up his email addy.

When you buy a caravan as a minimum you would need a waste water and fresh water container,  leisure battery electric hook up lead, step and gas bottle.
After that it's cutlery (don't forget the bottle opener!), cups and plates, bedding, a couple of folding chairs, awning and so on.
When you buy a caravan have a good look for signs of damp, look behind curtains and gently ease window rubbers down to spot black mould and look inside cupboards and under bed boxes. If there's air freshener sprayed about it could be disguising the musty damp smell.
Check where joints meet on walls floors and ceilings and check outside front and rear grp panels for minute cracks.
If you need any advice on more things to look out for when buying give us a shout.
