|
|
I'm not sure that this is the correct place to start this thread, but does anybody know of a "direct" Japanese import auction that is running currently. I must qualify this by saying that I used to regularly buy from Southampton docks many years ago (Pajero, Lucida and sports). Also Donnington and from Tilbury. My car trading business changed direction and I have not had any dealings with japanese imports for many years, other than the pajero that I drive daily. So my questions are:
Has anybody bought a fresh import recently?
Does anybody know of a import auction running currently?
Does Cyprus still import them?
If, as I fear, the economic climate has meant that they are no longer imported, where are they going? I have noticed odd "modern ish" pajeros turning up in the trade and assumed them to be personal imports.
Any ideas? |

I have been told that A1 auctions has opened up again in Southampton. They had a sale at the end of January. I will get myself down there for a sale and get an idea of the prices. |

Lost track of this again. Trying to find a japanese import auction. Quite fancy something newer. Where are all the japanese cars going now, I dont suppose 'Shaken' is getting any easier to pass. There used to be a couple of auctions dotted around the country; Southampton, Liverpool, Tilbury even Greece used to get quite a few. If they are not coming to the UK where are they going. I cant see the USA putting up with RHD! |

Haven't seen any auctions advertised for a few years now.
I used to go to Durham and Liverpool.
A name from the past -
Algy's Autos.
I was browsin ebay yesterday and came across his name importing tiny advertising vans.
All the wee vans were in Jap auctions.
So he is still going.
He was into importing all sorts of Jap cars, either direct to UK, or via Cyprus.
I suppose the main problem is cost of yen
When I was buying, I aimed for auction price of 300,000 Jap Yen which was about 1500 quids.
Just had a look online and 300,000 J Yen is now costing £2340 !!!
Some jump. |

I used to buy from "A1" and "Motorways" both in Southampton docks. There was another sale at Donnington that had some very nice vehicles.
Is £2350 FOB price! |

No mate.
I used to aim to pay £1500 for a Paj.
Back then £1500 was roughly 300,000 Japanese yen.
Now, with the exchange rate being what it is, 300,000 yen is £2340 |

Shame. I'd quite like to replace my old '93 pajero with one about 10 yrs old. Even the 2.8 are getting a bit long in the tooth really! |

Just a thought, with all of the problems that have been experienced in Japan just of late, maybe the laws have been relaxed regarding their cars etc........... so people haven't been selling their 6 years old motors, or maybe the old cars are being stripped for spares due to the problems with manufacturing but I bet the earthquake/tsunami/power station problems etc have a lot to do with it. |

I guess. But Mitsubishi has a world wide market and a world production base. They will just increase capacity somewhere else. |
