One day we'll have to find a replacement for our trusty 1975 frame tent. All cotton canvas, and as waterproof now as it was 36 years ago. No guy ropes either - and it's got curtains that go on curtain rails so it's like a proper little house Takes us about 30 minutes to put up (though most of that is putting up the inner (bedroom) bit and sorting the curtains. We've put it up in torrential rain (not having to rely on guy ropes for stability in sloppy muddy ground is an advantage). We used to do a lot of camping, and could go from turning off the car engine to having everything set up in the tent (including the dogs) and the kettle on in under an hour.
Only two downsides - it's very heavy (around 50kg in total, 20kg for the steel frame poles, and 30kg for the canvas outer and inner tents, and so takes up the space of a person in the car. And although the outside is a pleasant green, the curtains are orange and brown checked, and the inner (bedroom) tent is orange with large white and brown flowers... |
