Hi Guys,

as the title suggests, Has anyone used the split CV boots on their Paj or Shogun??

Both my inner boots are needing replaced and I've heard the split boots ( if fitted properly) are quite good.

Mines is a 3.0l V6 24v SWB.

Any advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Tony

Yes their ok, Iv used them.

However, dont use the glue that come with it,  Try getting some superglue with activator, GOOD STUFF.
Mines been on two years now with no problems.

Are you any good at DIY mechanics, if so then I did one of the inner front CV boots on mine, I was suprised how easy it was to do. Personally I am not a fan of the split type boots.

I fitted one a few months ago as a temporary job to stop dirt getting into the joint and its worked fine, make sure no grease or any form of contamination touches the area to be glued.  I cleaned out the joint as best I could and re filled with fresh grease then I wrapped the joint with some rag so all the grease was contained and thoroughly wiped the shaft area and fitted and glued the boot.  Just take your time and glue a little bit working your way along the boot.

Main issues with these are the joint doesn't get cleaned out as good as it should, and what was a temp fix for me has become a little more permanent !!!

You can get the split type boots which are glued and clamped, these are much the same as the glued type, and glued in the same way, but both sides are glued as they come as two halves, they have metal strips which clamp the joint and have small nuts and bolts through them, or spring clips to hold them together.

OOOhh not seen that type, just glueing one half is a delicate job to be fair I wouldn't fancy doing it twice.

Yes I agree but at the end of the day if you fit a sticky and it shows no sign of failure one month one year two years later what can you say Very Happy ,  should I remove mine to fit a proper CV boot.  If it works it works appreciated some have not but its entirely possible the ones that have failed were not done correctly, it really does require a little patience to get it right.  I fitted one based on my circumstances at the time.

proper ones for me too     while its apart check the joint and clean ALL the old carp  out     add plenty of nice new clean grease         lots of these split covers are put on as temp fix   and the old one cut off     split one put over, a bit of grease added  and glued up   no time spent checking for grit inside    leads to early failure

If a paying customer asks you to do it then you do it, but prior to doing it you explain that for this type of fix there's no guarantee Wink
