My husband has already posted a few times on here so thought id post too, will always sign as me when I sign in as him.

We bought a shogun 3.2 D ID Elegance Auto LWB year 2003 that we knew needed some bits doing to it and hope to work through them to make the car perfect.

Starting with the smallest problem, lol

Our oil low warning light is on but we have found the oil def isnt low but while looking at the oil level we found the dip stick to be broken at the top, luckily you can still get the dipper bit out with needle nosed pliers, would the broken dipper have anything to do with the light being on are is it more likely to be a sensor or another problem  Question

Mrs Sutton  Razz

PS I do loooove our new car.......

Hi there Mrs Sutton ,it depends because if broken you wont be able to get an accurate reading for oil level, maybe light is on because it is actually low.

Quick fix for dip stick,is there any welders near by or fabricators, just get them to braze it together.

The plastic bit has come away from the metal bit, I could attempt a repair, dont think its weldable (if thats a word lol) but I can try a repair and see if this makes a difference.  Any idea why the oil low light would only come on after 5 mins or so and not straight away.

Thank you

Keeley

When warmer its thinner so level will drop, for example a few year back mine was fine for a few mile on motorway from cold, then light would flicker, this turned out to be low oil as its thinner and around engine, not just in sump.

Might not be that, just a suggestion to try first Wink

Handle wise yes if plastic wont weld, mine went on the metal so no issue.Other way is fixing it somehow, maybe decent glue and source another dip stick as soon as Wink

Phone Mits and ask them to check if the recall has been done on your truck. There was a recall on the dipstick as oil warning lights came on after a few  then would go off after a few miles once warm. the position of the holes at the bottom of the stick were changed to stop this.

Most dipstick recalls were done at the same time as the brake accumulator and modulator were changed, did both together, but check it has been recalled for dipstick to be replaced.

Ask Mits what colour the plastic on the dipstick should be if it's the new one. Can't remember of hand, but the new one is not the same colour. I'm thinking it is White? There is a website that you can put your details in to see in recalls are still to be done on the vehicle, can't remember it ? Very Happy
