Hi all,

Does anybody know if it is possible to buy a full set of stainless brake hoses for a 2.8 LWB and if so where from.

Or do I have to have them made to measure?

Thanks.

Is it possible to clamp stainless braided hoses? If not, how can you prevent a back-flow of fluid into the ABS unit when pushing the calipers back?

I would have thought it would damage the hoses - luckily I don't have ABS.

The general advice on here is to both clamp the hose and release the nipple isn't it? Or maybe that's just a belt and braces approach.

not wanting to sound nasty but if that is the case do not use braided pipes, because once they get squashed or a kink in them they are knackered... Wink

You're not sounding nasty at all!  Smile
I appreciate your advice.

My question was really out of curiosity as somebody wrote in another thread how much more effective their brakes felt with braided hoses. So I was thinking that I might 'upgrade' my hoses at some point, when the ABS/clamping issue came to mind.

Before your first comment about using the nipple, I was wondering if the advice to always clamp might be unnecessary. The displaced fluid is always going to take the path of least resistance, which will be to exit through the open nipple.

what year model do you have, because my 1997 gdi has braided hoses with abs and i have never had a problem yet i just change the pads as normal without opening the bleed nipple or clamping the hose....but even if you did clamp the hose you would struggle to push the piston in without opening the nipple...and usually when the nipple is open without clamping the hose the fluid will come straight out of the nipple rather than going back up to the abs module, like you said the path of least resistance.....i am almost certain the issue we are discussing is more to do with the mk3/4 models rather than the mk2 Wink

I've got a 1996 Challenger, which has ABS.  I think the braking system is very similar to that on the Pajero Mk2.  I had always thought that the 'always clamp' advice applied to any of the vehicles with ABS, but could easily be wrong.

I was going to fit a complete set of braided hoses to mine but was put off by two things:

1. They were incredibly expensive.

2. Apparently they are classed as a modification and have to be declared to the insurance company.
