Hi folks,

gonna service my Shogun this weekend and wanted some opinions. What would be the best oil 5W 40 or 10W40?

Please advise

Hi,
I intend to do mine this week, I've been advised to use 10/40 semi synthetic, buy a good brand.

thanks for the reply mate..

yes, that seems to be a common recommendation that it should be 10W 40

Checked Auto Data and it says 5W40 for Cold Weather 10W40 for Mild Weather..

I have decided to go for 5W40 as its fully synthetic.. just hope I am able to drain all out as the existing one is really mucky and black

I'm going to call in at my local Mitsu dealer tomorrow and price them up, they are supposed to do a 'value parts' deal on oils and filters.
I suppose if you use 5w/40 and then do another change next spring it will give it a flush as well. what mileage you got on yours? mine is 06/2006 and 89,000, the engine sounds sweet enough, I've changed the timing chain top tensioner to be on the safe side.

I always get genuine filter (something I believed in and worth it) dealer quoted me £30 plus the vat.. lol.. I questioned it and he went dont worry I should be able to do it for £20 for you  Shocked  Shocked not complaining

Mine is 03/2006 on 89000 Elegance. I am planning to do the top guide before oil change.. Gonna use Forte Engine Flush first as I have just bought the vehicle and not aware of the history.. then followed by all diff and transfer oil changes and finally going to get the transmission oil by a specialist as I would rather get the transmission oil filter changed too..

Bought all my service items from milners. Also got the top guide and rocker gasket, along with auto box filter there as well. Fitted in Feb this year with no issues. Used Millers oils for all diffs, transfer box and auto box as well.

Full synthetic not recommended by Mitsubishi.

Stick to a good quality semi synthetic. 5/40 for winter or 10/40 for summer.

OK, I know this is an oldish post, but I am also about to buy oil for my 2006 Shogun Field 3.2. I've bought the filters from Milners for this and the Paj.

I have the original ? handbook (Pajero ) , and it says 15W40 for the temps we get here, minus 15 about the coldest through to 40C on a few days in the summer Very Happy . So far I can only find mineral oil in this grade in France. Is semi-synthetic recommended ??  . The handbook says 5W30 but that's only up to 10C  Rolling Eyes 10W30 is also mentioned, up to 40c, but not 10W40 or 5W40 except on petrol cars. Is it OK to put 10W40 ?, or can I just make a selection by going for stuff that is ACEA B1, B2, B3 or B4 as it says ?

Last year the service was done by my local garage, and they told me that the oil that had been provided by the garage I bought the car from in UK was not what they would recommend - however since I don't have the container anymore i don't know which one it was.

Can someone definitively advise me please ? I am probably going to have to buy the oil in France as shipping is likely to be too expensive from UK to make it worth my while, even though it is definitely cheaper in UK.

Total do some good oils, their cheap oils are fine for your engine as they meet and exceed the specifications.
