Does the cable on your photo go into the plug?

Possibly sidelights/indicators??

Never taken my headlights out so not sure.

Is there a plug in the car wiring near to it - shouldn't do any harm to plug it in if there is.

Yeah there's a plug that fits into taped to the headlight bulb wires, I've got to take the headlight out again at some point this week to drill out the sheared bolts  Rolling Eyes

It must be sidelights and indicators - are they working with the plug disconnected?

If not plug it in - worst you can do is blow a fuse!

Sidelights and indicators are a separate light unit with their own wires and they're working fine

Will find my box of fuses just in case and see what happens when I plug it in

Yep - you are right there - don't know why I thought that!

Just a thought - When I first got mine the headlight on the same side as the indicator came on when I put the indicator on. It confused me for a while.

Can't remember if it came on only when the sidelights were switched on - or whether it was the sidelight and not the headlight thatcame on!!!

Anyway, it stopped doing it so I forgot about it but I read somewhere on here that they do that to help you see round the corner you are indicating for.

Maybe the connector is to do with that "feature"

OR - I maybe completely wrong!

I've looked in the workshop manual and it shows nothing but I've got to sort my glowplug relay this afternoon so I will have a look.

OK - I've had a look and I can't see that connector on mine - I even took the expansion tank out and I can't see one. I've got some really big winch wiring there and it might be covering it. Can't see it on the other side though.

Also - I've tried my indicators with the ignition on - then with the engine running - then with the lights on. I can't get the headlight on the side to light with the indicator. Beginning to think I imagined it now!

Sure it's not the sidelight going brighter when that side's indicator is on? On my Challenger the sidelights have 5W/21W bulbs. The 21W filament is energised when the lights are on and the indicator is used. Completely useless, but at least I was able to match some features with a mate who's got a flash Merc GL.  Laughing

Ah! - That's it - I knew it did something special when the indicator came on.

And I now know why it doesn't do it any more - because I changed the indicator and sidelight bulbs to LEDs!

Thanks Simon - I was beginning to think that I had imagined it!

Have you got that extra connector on your headlights? _ I couldn't see it on mine

No, not that I can recall. I do have one headlight unit that came from the USA (Doh! I forgot that they drove on the other side of the road, and it's useless of course  Embarassed) and that hasn't got the extra connector either. It does have a couple of sight-glasses in the top of it. One's to level the headlamp but I really can't work out what the other one is for.

I think that it is some sort of optional extra - maybe headlight adjustment.

I had a 97 facelift shogun that had a button for adjusting the height of the beams

Yes, I think you're right. It's got a motorised adjuster and I reckon the spirit level is to align it horizonally to set the '0' point. But there's another adjuster that I don't get the purpose of at all. Next time I'm in the loft I will retrieve it and take a photo.

I'm still finding them! - and I've had the car over three years.

The way I look at it, if everything works then the spare wires are not a problem.

Best guess for the plug is for adjustable headlights - have you got a knob on the dashboard? On my old Shogun it was near where the dash dimmer is on the Mk2 Paj.

Maybe just to set the sideways alignment.

Nope height adjuster knob/button, the dash dimmer doesn't even work! Lol.

I can't see any motors on the headlight
