^ What venn said really.

You CAN spend more if you want but to be honest it's hard to justify the extra expense as the nightbreakers are pretty good any way IMO so the improvement in pricier bulbs wouldnt be that huge to warrant spending more.

I've used the nightbreakers in all my motors and I've never had an issue with any of them and they are a much more 'usable' light, if that makes sense.

I have said before, in other posts, that I thought that the headlights on my MkII (1994 2.8 Exceed) were pretty good with whatever came as standard.

I have just replaced with nightbreakers and the difference is very noticeable.

Cleaner whiter light and the road edges are seen much clearer.

I searched the evilbay for shogun headlights, got a pair of nightbreakers, sooo much better than standard and they are still going strong, great value at a tenner.

I get mine from China at about £4 a pair for H4 100W Xenon gas filled, yep I know 100w are illegal but they are very bright and I don't live in the UK but you have to upgrade the plugs at the back of the lamps to high temperature plugs sooner or later but they are also from China at around £3 a pair. These lamps have lasted about 5 years so far and still going strong.  Very Happy  Shocked

I always use osram nightbreakers too and find them good. Have used the plus version and can't see any difference.

I tried uprating my bulbs last year on my shogun.
I put in 90/130w bulbs, the difference was brilliant.
The only problem was that the additional heat generated melted the light fitting
to the bulb and as a result the headlights stopped working.

You can buy heat proof ceramic plugs for the back of the bulbs.

Morning Jimmy.

My plug didn't melt because I changed to ceramic ones.

Maximillian put in 90/130 bulbs - I tried 100W ones but got worried about the extra current burning out the truck wiring so went back to standard and fitted four spotlights instead.

You can buy the 130W bulbs HERE but I would think there would be far too much heat for the lenses.

I also have plastic headlamp protectors fitted and they would melt with the heat.

Blimey, pete it amazes me how handy you are lol.
so this tells me by looking at it the actual back of the bulb gets hot.
I uprated my paj bulbs with blue ones, packet said 35% brighter.
thats all I know about them lol.
but 100w bulb must be mega but not for the reflector.
be interesting how people get on with them.
surely the fuse will need changing and hopefully the wiring is ample enough.
I didnt expect the plug would be a plug to plug into your existing plug.
I always thought the amps burnt the connections then melted the plug.
clearly I was wrong lol

I'm only handy with electrics!

100W bulbs are OK as far as the reflector is concerned but I think the 130W ones would perhaps be a bit too much.

Most of the heat is conducted through the bulb to the back I think.

Trouble is that 100W and higher are illegal for on road.

I was worried about damaging the wiring to the headlights because of the extra current so I intended fitting relays which were switched by the truck wiring but which were fed the power direct from the battery. I never got round to it in the end and I found it easier to fit two 8 inch spots and two 2 inch projector spots so I have 400W of spotlights on the front which is a bit bright! - but legal.

x1........................... that's what I stated in my post on the subject. Anything higher than standard wattage requires a ceramic plug otherwise the stock plastic plug melts. Before going above 100w check your wiring and fuse can also cope with the higher wattage lamps. Don't increase the fuse otherwise your truck may go up in flames.

Thats pretty amazing to me.
no offense pete but id say these sockets would be what I would prefer as will look tidy when all fitted rather than having 2 plugs.
