Hi all,
1999 2.5td manual
Sorry this has probably been asked so many times
Is 75w/90 GL-5 oil ok to use for the manual box and transfer box.....or does it have to be GL-4??

If you buy 75W 90 manual gearbox oil, often sold as "Easy Shift", it will be GL4, that's the spec. Good for the T/C too. |

Not sure if this is any use? |

Ah ok thanks for the reply, I managed to dig out a topic using the search and they're using redline MT90 its quite pricey though £65 for 3.7l :/ :/ |

I don't know those code numbers, but I would say a Castrol, BP, Shell or Caltex would be as good, and less than that cost.
Others in the UK will know more. |

I just found some Halfords GL-4 75w90 for £8.50 or even Castrol for £12.99! much cheaper much more like it haha |

If your gear shifts are smooth, then that's ok, but no doubt a difficult shift can be improved by using 75W90 manual gearbox oil. |

Do these gearboxes have any brass or bronze components in?
When dealing with older Land Rover gearboxes, which do have brass or components, you are warned to use GL-4 only. The additives in GL-5 can apparently corrode brass or bronze components. |

No they don't; this was only with the early GL5 lubricants, later ones were modified by the manufacturers to avoid this problem so any GL5 you buy now will be fine. |
