Right guys I've got a 3.0 v6 12v lwb auto shogun and when I change between drive and reverse and back, it makes a loud knock and the whole car jerks, but it only does this when it's warm, when it's cold it's nice and smooth and quiet. Any ideas?

Mine does that - I thought it was normal.

I assume it is just the backlash in the drive train being taken up with the change in direction.

Check for any play in the Universal joints on the propshaft - that can cause the noise.

There is no play in my UJs but there is a bit of a clunk which I've put down to some play in the rear diff.

Maybe it's a shogun thing then, but will check those bits when it stops raining.
