If it's a Shogun then most of the lights in the body are not wired and don't have bulb holders.
The bumper lights are normal for Shoguns - to make them legal in UK.
Pajeros have fully working lights in the body but no bumper lights and are technically illegal. |

The body mounted lights on a Paj are a hell of a lot easier to see than the bumber fitted ones on a Shoggie, so why out of interest are they deemed technically illigal?

They cannot be seen from certain angles because of the door mounted spare wheel.
The ones in the bumper on a Shogun are never obscured by the spare.
You will notice that Lawn Rovers etc all have bumper lights if they have a spare whell on the rear door. |

They're not illegal, just don't meet the requirements for a vehicle sold as new in the UK/EU. All Japanese import Pajeros had to go through an SVA/IVA/whatever it's called this week test, the requirements for a non-new car are far looser, and so the lack of bumper lights isn't a problem. There are certain things that have to be done to pass the test - for example a rear foglight, speedo in mph
The issue is to do with the spare wheel obstructing the view of the right hand lights, particularly if parked with sidelights on (eg on an unlit road). Some UK/EU manufacturers get round it by moving the lights up higher (eg Honda CR-V etc), some by putting additional lights lower down in the bumper (eg Shogun, Disco etc). |
