|
|
I have returned to the pajero scene and bought a 2.8 but it has its problems. It wont run unless you connect an inline electric fuel pump or as i tried earlier a little suction pump inline.
Very little known on history only previous owner was using an electric inline fuel pump and it was running 100%, i drove it after buying it when i connected my own inline pump and can confirm its driving 100%.
I have surveyed the fueling system from start to finish, a little black deposit in old fuel filter, the filter head had been changed as wires that should go to the heated head are there in the 4x4. I borrowed a known good filter head also to eliminate it.
Im thinking have i a simple front seal replacement to do or is the part of the pump that sucks the diesel in trouble. All help welcome and thanks in advance. |

You may find as its not been ĺifting its own fuel the vanes in front of pump may of ran dry.
this means there more than likely dead now.
they need fuel as lubricant.
Probably best toget this bench tested.
Its a bit of a gamble jsut fitting a seal.
all depends if you love tinkering around lol.
a bench test wont cost alot if a mechinical pump.
edc pump is £65 or 75 |

Thanks for the replies Jimmy and v8, the situation of parts wore in the lift pump side is what is my worry, would it ever run dry though as the way it was being run via the inline electrical pump keep the pump lubricated? |

hi podge , the above comments about the pump running dry just doesn`t make sense the pump will always have had fuel inside certainly enough the lube the vanes .
although to low pressure side of the pump can fail its a rare occurrence , i have done a great many pajero / shogun`s that have been fitted with low pressure electric pumps its a common enough bodge to over come the front seal failing .
im 99% certain that if you remove the pump fit a new seal and disconnect the electric pump all will be fine , it has been on every one that ive done .

If this does not suck anything without the lift pump connected I would deffo get this bench tested before you fit it.
its your choice but a hell of a gamble if its faulty.
any fuel pump thats had lack of fuel to pump damages the vanes.
ive changed alot of bosch vp44 pumps for this sole reason.
vauxhall and ford have no primer pump.
you need a vacuum gun, most people dont own one so they fill filter with fuel then crank or tow it.
there would of been fuel left in pump but they still knackered up.
for what a bench test costs it makes perfect sense to me.
the seals I use to use zexel seals now im on red bosch seals.
im not experienceng any problems yet.
its looking its a myth lol.
I bet I cursed myself now. |

Just a quick update took the pump out and removed the front seal, it was well shot gone brittle and was cracked in several places along where it seals on the shaft. New seal coming tomorrow or Friday so will reinstall immediately and hope to have a good result. |
