Anyone able to assist with this question ? when the light flashes on to let you know your oil level is low does anyone know the aprox amount that should be put in the engine to bring it back to an acceptable level....unfortunately whenever i check with the dipstick i can never seem to precisely determine amount etc as the stick smears...and due to overfilling and locking a previous engine up i am always scared of doing the same again...answer anyone? thanks for assistance...would rather appear to be dim than screw up again. |

Well mine looses some oil over time due to leaky valvecover gaskets. Normally after havin pulled the dipstick out and cleaned it on a rug, I put it back in and pull it out. There will normally be a smear along one edge of the dipstick but I use the lowest oil smear as the reference an fill upp until this low smear is well in the middle of the "safe level". Never had any problems. Hope this made sense. |

My light goes on and off occasionally, at first I used to worry and check the oil level only to find it was ok
So now I just ignore it, I am 99% certain that it is a faulty sensor and after all it is only a level sensor and NOT a pressure sensor, so if your oil level is ok just ignore it |

If it's smearing, just check there isn't a broken dipstick inside it. Does happen with these. |
