I have been researching different turbo upgrades and wondered what anyone else has done. I am aware of the common adjustments to the standard one. But It was mentioned that a td-05 was a direct fit in some way or another. Does anyone have any more info on it?

I am not just looking for a power upgrade but to change the character of the truck and how it revs. I know there are other options but they don't seem to have been brought into discussion often on here, more on facebook. But it would be good to bring a turbo discussion to the forum.

Not sure about that, but my friend put a VNT into his defender and it turned it into an antichrist, didn't make it much more powerful, but made it boost from about 1100rpm all the way up. It is something i'd like to do to mine for a bit of fun some time, but controlling it would probably be tricky in a pretty much fully mechanical system when you're wanting something that will take data from things like throttle position, revs, speed and other whatnots, but I know Autstin7uk on here did try put a vnt into his but couldn't get it to stop boost spiking at the top end

That would be good, I would love a VNT turbo just for the noise they make when you lift off the throttle with a free flowing air intake.

Have a look at the gt2256 from a Sprinter van, It's a fully mechanical VNT.

Can be controlled my mechanical vaccum solenoids connected upto the throttle linkage or through a home made digital controller. I am looking into building an Arduino PLC based controller. Using engine RPM and throttle position to control it. Has been done on other mechanically injected diesels before; 306 and vw AAZ diesels as well as mercs.

Would like to see a good well documented thread started here

I was looking at something like this too to adapt the styandard turbo http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Turbo-Compressor-Upgrade-Kit-SAAB-9-3-w-19T-/121497014975?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c49c952bf

Would that just reduce lag? Would it need balancing after the wheel is taken off?
