|
|
Can anyone give some advice on how to change the glow plugs on a 2004 Xsara Picasso?
It's getting harder to start now that the weather's turned colder, so was think it's them, and
people are saying these can be an absolute 'mare to change....
Also, some are saying it could just be the 'relay'?
Any advice would be grateful. |

is it a hdi engine and is the exhaust manifold at the front when you open the bonnet if so then the glow plugs are buried around the back of the engine, which makes it fun to get at but a good tip would be to use a mirror of some sort to aid you but a strong word of caution make sure the engine is hot before trying to remove them as they tend to snap especially if they have never been out.so if you do fit new ones put a bit of copper grease on the threads of the new ones....
not sure about the relay have you checked to see you have power going to them |

Have had this similar problem recently with a friends' one of these. If they don't spin over quite quick enough, they're a pig to start apparently. Might be a sign your battery is about to give out. Might be an idea to check for any air leaks on the fuel system too.

An update....
It's NOT the glow plugs.
We broke down yesterday.
We only had the engine stopped for basically minutes, so it was still hot.
Tried turning over several times, and it spluttered a few times like fuel starvation but didn't start, so we think it must be fuel related.
Friend brought a can of 'Easystart', (I know... ) and bang - fired and started straight away using very little of the stuff.
Got home, checked fuel lines and filter (clean), and the electric pump is priming / running fine as I know they can be a problem.
So now, I can't find anything obviously wrong now, some kind of 'leak back' perhaps??.
And so, she decided the car's going.
She's starting to find driving a manual difficult anyway due to her Crohns and Ankylosing Spondylitis. |
