Lol. more internet BS.

If you've ever stripped and engine that's blown up and left lots of metal in the sump......it's from the bearings and most of it is non magnetic.
If your sump is pressed steel as most but not all of them are......adding a magnetic plug will tend to magnetise the whole sump.
Most Mitsubishis come with a magnetic plug in the gearbox.
The gearbox casing is aluminium so it's non magnetic, the steel gears in the box wear so any metal filings in the box will stick to the plug.
So, yes it works for a gearbox.
No, it's a waste of time in an engine otherwise Mitsubishi would have built it that way.

Minis?, well yes, they have the engine and gearbox sharing the same oil and the case is aluminium.
