Won't fire up

Hi was driving along the other day and the car just died on me felt like it has ran out of diesal  but still had 1/8 tank in it .so we put a gallon in and primed it from the fuel filter to no joy .called aa man out and he said that it points to fuel filter. .so got towed home .put a new fuel filter on and primed the system up to the injectors.and it would still not fire up .the engine  turned over but it just does want to fire up.any help or any ideas.
