|

As I suspect my trucks brakes are binding a bit, I wondered what most people expect to get from a full tank of diesel? I have a 1994 2.8 SWB td. I thought the odometer was in miles to start with and was a bit sad to find out that it was in kms! I try not to nail it and mostly pootle about in it, but get about 500 kms on a tank - I think. I've not tried to drive it onto reserve as I've never seen the light on and I'm worried it's broken.. And I don't want to conk out.. |

My 2.8 does 19-20 mpg - mainly doing short local journeys.
About 25-26 on a long motorway run. |

I get around about 500 kms to a tank on winter diesel, same truck as yours. Hoping for slightly better number on summer diesel. |

Cowbayboy your paj is not edc unless its a late 96 with a engine management light.
but I always had in my head 500 550 a full tank of fuel.
I dont like going under half a tank in any vehicle I use.
Its only my breakdown van that regularly I can use a tank of fuel in.
sometimes I have to drive to exeter or bristol etc etc in 1 day.
can use 2 tanks of fuel in 1 day. |

Not sure how many K's per tank as like Jimmy I very rarely go below half a tank but on fill to fill my 98 2.8 Shogun is returning between 28 and 32 per gallon week in week out, that's using it daily for commute to work 10 mile each way and knocking around town, thought my maths was wrong first time I worked it out but it's been like that since I had it a couple of months ago, and I fill it up every week, so I well pleased. |

Mick I would say im somewhere like your mpg.
everytime I worked out my mpg it was always 26mpg I often tow plus wife does horses etc etc so never a good run.
its always gave me same figures 26mpg.
even towing my caravan which is a hobby so its huge.
I remember it being around 500 to 550 and I was certain my clocks were in kmh.
my speedo is mph but dial is wrong colour to speedo so I just assumed its the earlier speedo dial as the same as my older 2.5 paj I have.
a guy said to me theres no way thats returning 500 to 550 km to a tank as thats far to much.
I did say ive had £110 in it once and he laughed claiming thats dream land stuff.
I not sure if he ment by the diesel or the mileage.
but he started the convo saying that is not returning 500 to 550.
I have not had the tank down to much under half for a very long time so I just dont know.
I was certain it was around 500 kmh.
I think once or twice since ive owned this truck since 2005 have I only ever seen the yellow fuel light on. |

I get approx 400 miles to a tank in my 1995 2.8 LWB manual.
Commuting to work (30 mile round trip on small A and B roads) and around town I get 20-22mpg and on a motorway run I get upto 25mpg.
I do have a few mods that add weight and run MT tyres too. |

Well mines on kumho kl71 tyres.
yes this did knock our fuel down but this is what made me work it out to 26mpg.
I live out in the sticks.
same as horse yard.
every saturday it pulls at least 3 ton of horse poo.
sometimes yes I go on main roads etc when towing something or going shopping.
I just used to work out how much fuel went in then how many miles, well kmh until tank fairly low.
each it was the same, about 26.
ive never done a good run thats used a full tank.
once I bought a horsebox from the beginning of the m5.
I thought christ thats 150 miles there then 150 miles back towing.
I honestly thought a full tank.
I was at 70 there and 65 back with a ifor williams 505r box.
I was just under half a tank of fuel so I would say this was knocking out more than 26mpg with ease that day.
My other good runs are like miles away but thats carrying something like a abb robot.
there close to 3 ton.
other than that its collecting heavy stuff or towing our caravan, its so much wider and taller than truck its like atowing a huge parachute.
my temp guage wont let me drive over 60mph as ive had new rad.
its 32mm.
since then I have to watch my temp when towing as 3.5ton or the hobby caravan as its cutting so much air.
if its cold then yes no problem, 65mph all the way.
in summer if I turn aircon off I can drive 65 again. |
