Please confrim that all Pajeros have this as a safety feature. If the vehicle is switched off but the shift is left in D, the key should not be able to be removed from the ignition. I am told by my service centre that this safety feature was only implemented in models older than 2012.
I see posters writing on here in 2008 and 2010 mentioning the safety feature that will allow the key to be taken out ONLY WHEN shift is in PARK. |

Can confirm that on my 1993 LWB Pajero, the key is impossible to remove if the shift is anywhere other than "P". |

Thank you for your reply. I can now assume that it is not a new safety feature installed only in models since 2013 as I am told.
I am told my 2012 model Pajero 3.5 GLS LWBI H/L wasn't manufactured with this feature and I feel it is unsafe and I should have been told about this 'exclusion' when I bought it new in 2013.
Waiting for local service provider to get it in writing from the manufacturer that my car was designed/ built without it on purpose . I am not convinced.

My 1995 swb 2.8 did it too, key would not turn all the way unless in gear selector was in P so it wouldn't come out, also many other jap cars have this feature, my 1989 Toyota Soarer does it and many mkiii Toyota Supra ( 1986 to 1993) with auto boxes do it too. |

Thank you for the posts re the key. I notice my 2012 model is LWBI not LWD. Wondering if this is the reason this saftey measure is not included in my pajero? Or maybe it is a manufacturer fault and it should have this feature? I feel all vehicles should have this feature, to remind you your car is not in Park before you remove the key. |

I would think that it is a fault. |

Why are you being so paranoid about this being a safety feature, a manual does not have any such feature and an auto cannot start if it is left in D or R??? Are you saying they have deleted the parking brake? |
