Hi folks after reading all the things about the egr i decided i would take mine off  from my 92 pajero 2.5td and have a look at it well it had a blanking plate  and the vacum hose was still connected the egr was not blocked or that dirty but it was jammed solid i tried carb cleaner but it would not move so i went and took the one off the 2.8 shogun thats on the farm it was clean moving freely and did not have a blanking plate i cleand it up put it on my car i had to take a longer hose for the vacum as it faced rear wards i took it for a drive and it seems to be a lot better at building speed up  but best of all there is no smoke at all  Smile  Smile  Smile

That's a very good mpg figure - much better than my 2.8.

My egr is blanked by previous owner

I wondered about getting another or getting it sorted.. Does it create better power more mpg.  Or make it worse

I haven't a clue! - some people say it is better blanked.

I still have my EGR valve on - I clean it every year.

38mpg.
I cant see it.
You sure you not worked it by the clocks as there in km.
ive had a 2.5 and now on a 2.8 edc which are the most economical mk2 pajero you can get.
I use as daily car we reckon its more like 26 28 mpg.

your getting more mpg than my car and thats diesel.

Scarecrow, trust me.
your paj same as mine and many others they have a face dial sticker to put them to miles but the mileage is still counting in km and speed by needle is mph due to sticker.

I dont think any mk2 is gonna beat a mk2 2.8 edc on mpg.
I get 26 28 and if dead nice 30 32 mpg but thats not driving lol.

at 38mpg on a 2.5 mitsy would not of made a 2.8.
put it this way id of kept mine.

your doing way better than my car.
Thats a v6 3.0tdi.
I have to be very nice to get 35mpg.
and I mean very nice and im 245 hp barely touching the pedal and cutting less than half the air of you plus my car common rail and not that old.

so not unless you drive at 30 mph and infact I still cant see it.
my car will not touch 38mpg at 30mph, yes it goes up but ive never seen it at 38mpg.

This is what will settle it.
pete has a 2.8 on a mechanical fuel pump same as yours.
pete what mpg do you reckon is your best.
also is your mileage in km or miles.

scarecrow 38 km in miles works out to be 23 mpg
and I be honest with you.
I had a pajero 2.5 auto, dead slow, foot was welded to floor and i was finding it hard to get 19 mpg.
I had to drive dead nice like a egg on the bonnet.
Thats exactly why mitsy made the 2.8.
1 for a bit more guts and bit better on fuel.

My friend had a manual 2.5 shogun and he said max mpg was 22mpg for him.

On local journeys I get 19.5mpg - on a motorway run I get 25mpg if I am lucky! - and my engine has done less than 100,000 miles and is in very good condition, and I don't have a heavy right foot.

My speedo dial is in mph but my odometer is in km - it is easy to tell if the odo is in km or miles by using a satnav. Just record the odo reading then drive 5 miles using the satnav and see if the odo goes up by 5 - if it goes up by about 8 then it is in km.

I dont know what our mpg is on a long run.
it has to tow the trailers etc oh and now our caravan again.
I finally managed to get shot of the shogun.
it was frigging useless,  could not tow anything in the mud.
stick to the older 4x4s is what I learnt.
and infact considering it was a 2007 shogun I had more agro with that than I have my paj.
owned paj since 2005 way we think.
shogun since all my head agro.
2009 poss 2010 way.

I know with the pajero towing etc etc doing the horses just local running about i work out the fuel that gone in and what kms came out.
its always 26 28 mpg.
I can say though towing our horse box thats the best ive ever seen.
I got to redditch and back to mine, drove about 55mph as horse in trailer.
I didnt even use half a tank.
I expected a full tank gone.
was impressed with that.
I never have no long runs with paj unless its hooked upto a trailer.
All driving is to town, or horse yard or horse stuff related.same as saturday.
had 4 500kg haylage bales on trailer.
bloody good truck.
mk2s are the way to go.
so tough.

Say you used £30 of fuel for 277 miles.

I get about 25L for £30 which is 5 gallons.

So yours works out at over 55 mpg - more than my other half's brand new Nissan Micra  Confused

I've never known any Pajero/Shogun to be that economical.
