Hi all--
Sadly the engine on My pajero EVO has died Sad
I'm no mechanic // but a 4x4 specialist who I trust had confirmed that its terminal
(And that a replacement recon engine will be about £5000 😳!!

I have had my Pajero for 4-5 years and had the money back then to get it properly sorted --
(Bare metal re-spray -- metallic black now - // leather re-trim on interior -- Lpg converted // stainless exhaust // hks induction -- properly serviced and looked after-- oh and LPG converted)

My question is
Does any of you have or know of any EVO engines for sale ??
Or can you point me in the right direction??

Cheers
Si

What's wrong with it?
Spun bigend bearing?

5K for a recon seems a bit steep.
In my part of the world you'd pay half that.

I cant imagine that it cant be rebuilt? As far as I know the bottom end is the same as a 3.5 V6 shogun, just the head is different, surely a rebuild could be cheaper than a new engine? Also I dont think there is many being broken as there isnt many going about to begin with

The £5000 was total cost
£3000 + for a recon - short engine plus total costs of delivery labour etc etc...

I'm no mechanic but broken crank and all sort of mess inside the current engine
Apparently
2 of the cylinders were starved of oil // the other four were fine (general oil levels were ok//)

anyway--- as luck would have it I have been offered a second hand engine from a scrap yard £1750 delivered...
Not cheap // but hard to say what a fair price is
(Not that I have many options right!!)

They can ask whatever price they want if the stuff is rare.

I just got another air con fan off eBay - only one for sale on the whole of eBay and I hated paying £50 for it.

*beep*---
Turned out to be a scam !!
Still no engine // and seems the "head may be damaged as well :-/

If I can't get an engine -- I might have to buy another EVO // use the engine and sell on the rest --
Or use a different engine !!
Any conversion ideas (V8 that can be matched to my manual gearbox somehow ???)

thing is with it being an evo once you start chucking other engines at it...it won,t be an evo yeah it may look like one,but the engine is the heart and soul of it.....ive seen gdi engines along with standard 24 valve 3.5 v6 engines in them....but if it were me i would rather rebuild the original engine unless the block itself is damaged beyond repair, and even then it,s a 6g74 block it,s the internals and heads that make the difference Exclamation

They're nothing special to fix.
The crank and rods are identical to any other 3.5.
It' too hard for most mechanics but a proper engine reconditioner will find it no harder than any other job.

You just need another crankshaft or get it re ground, re size the damaged conrods, or get them re sized.
The cylinder block is actually different from a 3.5 GDI and a 3.5 DOHC but the same as the 3.5 SOHC found in the Diamante.
But the Diamante pistons are different.
So....finding a SOHC Diamante 3.5 engine would make a good start.

the cylinder block superseded to any rwd 3.5.
part number MD324671 superseded to MD353690.

rods are unique, so are pistons.

i use these websites. first this one, find the part number and copy it.
russian mitsu part catalogue

then paste the part number in this one to see what else it fits. partsbase
i find it very usefull to see what fits what.

PostPosted: Mon Jun 01, 2015 22:32    Post subject: Engine needed / parts for sale? Reply with quote

Ok..
So the conclusion I have reached is that the cost of repairing my damaged engine is prohibitive...
Options..
A) I either wait until an engine becomes available?
B) I buy another pajero EVO // use that engine, and then break the EVO for parts :-/
Sad to break a rare car like this BUT -- needs must perhaps...

However, this would only work if I can be confident that I could sell on the rest of the EVO to one person interested in a complete EVO minus engine (!) or if there is enough interest in parts so that I could recoup enough money to be able to afford to go down this road....

I'm thinking that if I get an EVO for £4500 and then sell it without engine for say £3000 or so ..

Anyone interested ?? Or know of anyone who would be interested???

Hi, I saw that there was a motor for sale on Yahoo auction japan right now.  Perhaps if you haven't solved your issue you might be interested in picking it up.  I believe the bid start is about 1500 U.S dollars. I think you'd be the only bidder Smile

I was lead to believe the engine was the same as used in a mitsubishi gto.
That might be worth looking into if its true
