I have a fluid leak on my rear axle
from what I can see it is coming from a welded seam on the left hand side of the axle and not anywhere near any seal
the axle has heavy rust so im thinking it will be a waste to strip and weld the axle outer when I can throw a full axle on there
I am just wondering if it is within my realms and doable on a driveway?
I can do most bolt on/off jobs and service myself but I am by no means a mechanic
any help appreciated

It's not a difficult job if you have the right tools etc. I cannot be certain without looking but you may get away without brake bleeding if you tie up the rear calipers. Depending on your luck and whether the nuts and bolts come undone easily I'd reckon on 4 hours from scratch (including tea breaks) to remove the existing axle and 5-6 to install a new one and testing. In all a good hard days work say from 8am until 6pm but easily doable. If you are going ahead buy yourself a couple of spray cans of Plusgas first and apply at least 12 hours beforehand to all the nuts and bolts and again an hour before you start. Good luck.

As above they is not thats much holding them up to be fair. I would put the wheels back on and you can roll the axle out when its disconnected. I have seen one snap at the weld before due to it rusting away. It snapped on an off-road track. I bet the recovery was a ball ache.

Easy job, just nuts and bolts really, You'll need a 24mm socket, spanner, and maybe a deep socket to remove the radius arms, I think it's a 12mm and 14mm for the prop shaft, and a few other smaller spanners for the brake pipes.

What I'd do is leave on the wheels, undo the prop at the flange, take off the handbrake cables at the lever, and undo the 12mm bolts that clip it to the chassis and body,,take the panhard rod off at the chassis end, undo the radius arms at the chassis, and take off the brake pipe between the chassis and the axle. Roll the axle out from under it, and remove the radius arms on the floor, and swap the brakes and whatnot over, its a much easier job than doing it while it is under there.

Just be sure that you get an axle with the same diff ratio as your current one
