I always like the look of the Pajero Evo front grille.  I was looking at getting one but they’re not only expensive but hard to find.  I decided to make one myself.  Obviously I not going to try to make it look the same as that’s just copying someone else’s design and boring from a build standpoint.

PLANNING & SOURCING SUPPLIES

My plan is to order a new grille and have the stock one on the truck while I build the custom one.  I’m thinking it’ll take a few weeks being that I can only work on it on the weekends between diaper changes & bottle feedings with the newborn.  Not to mention the plan calls for deleting the centre fins using a rotory tool and probably hours of sanding and bondo’ing to smooth out the cutouts.  It’s also going to need some refinishing.  Since the paint I propose to use is a polyurethane based textured finish, this could save some sanding time as it’ll probably hide a lot of the imperfections.  Anyways plans are made to be changed and revised.  We shall see.  I have some carbon fibre/resin I can use but then I remembered how much I hate carbon fibre on vehicles.  I like the functionality of it but hate the look as I feel it’s being overly used and looks cheap IMO.

I’ve narrowed it down to 3 patterns.  They’re aluminum stock, powder coated in black.  This is what I have envisioned it to look like (quick cut & paste mock-up).  Which one do you prefer?  I like the first 2 to most but the 3rd isn’t bad either.  Having 77% open area compared to 70% is something to think about.  I might get all three and go from there…

Stock

Diamond XXL – 16 Gauge / Open Area: 70%

Stacking Oval – 16 Gauge / Open Area: 70%

Perf Hex – 14 Gauge / Open Area: 77%

Thanks guys.

Thanks for the pics Andy.  That's exactly what I was going for.  Can I ask any specific reason you switch it to the stock one in the winter other than because you can and you like to play Mr. Dress up?  LOL
