Just curious, are both these jobs on the same vehicle? |

Mark3 asked because as there's no cambelt on your engine, there's no cambelt tensioner. There is a chain tensioner, but AFAIK they seldom give problems. Why do you think your chain tensioner needs replacing?
Both the upper timing chain guide and the chain tensioner are very easy DIY jobs. If you do fit a new chain tensioner, use a new gasket and no RTV sealant as there's a risk of blocking an oilway. Might be worth fitting a new rocker cover gasket whilst you're at it. |

Cheers for the heads up. I got the gasket and rocker cover gasket as well.
After reading on here and a few other sites there seems to be a few posts about the cam chain tensioner and upper guide causing trouble. For the sake of £125 in parts I can rest easy.
I need the vehicle to tow to Norway twice next month and use for work on top of the vans so needs to be a reliable truck.
Plugs, KnN air, oil and fuel filter going in this weekend as well. |
