Some help please folks, what would you do?

One of the (many) plates that were welded to my Paj's rear offside chassis had 'popped' off and it failed the MOT. I thought it was best to clean up all the plates that was there and see how bad it really was. Some bits of plate were no thicker than a piece of paper. There is still more to clean up on the side but ran out of discs. The rest of the car is in very good condition and everything works well. My welder has told me to scrap her. Not worth repairing!

Some pics...

It does look worse than in the flesh. That is all solid metal, just surface rust.

I used to repair MGB's for a living and have seen and fixed alot worse. MG's you could get chassis repair sections though and just cut the rot out unlike these Pajero's.

I am not worried if it costs me £2-300 or more to get this fixed. This is the only rot on the car.

Any help or advice much appreciated.

It depends how much you like the car - anything can be mended if you spend enough time and money on it.

A good welder could sort that out for you.

thats where mine was gone albeit not as bad but i had the whole section cut out and refabbed ,, both sides cost me £240 inc vat and materials and the guy did it in a day after dropping it off at 8am i picked it up about 4pm

happy to pass his number onto you if you think you can get it over this area ( brighton ) - all he does is welding and his welds are very very good and tidy

If you are used to welding then grab some steel and a bottle of gas and get cracking Smile

Cut out the rot, weld in the new and then seal the whole lot with cavity wax. I'd save that Smile

Thanks for the encouragement. Just what I needed.
Will have to look for someone more local to me that wants to do the work. If anyone knows of someone in the Basingstoke area that could help I would be grateful. The car has no MOT so its abit difficult to take it to garages for estimates.

If all else fails though I would be grateful for your guys number Skool as I would get it trailered to him somehow.

Thanks again folks

Well after nearly a tank full of diesel, finally I have found someone that didn't suck air through their teeth and say they were unable to do the work.

She is booked in for Monday morning.
Hopefully they will do the MOT pass for me as well.

Alot cheaper than replacing the car (hopefully as it was only an estimate)

I have asked them to fix anything minor to get the pass.
Real good guys, said they would 'pre MOT' to highlight anything but as I had fixed all the things it didn't pass on before,he said it would probably be ok once the welding is done.

Hopefully some good news next week.
