Hi. I purchased a 1994 shogun and was told it needed a battery and it would fire up.

Purchased a new battery and fitted it. Although there are no light on the dash when the ignition is on  Sad
Any ideas please?

I have checked the fuses near the front battery and they seem ok.

Is there another fuse for the dashboard lights? Both batteries hold charge.

Oh and there is an immobiliser on the 4x4 and wondering if it's that but when you turn the key on the lights on the button of the heater fan come on. The headlights, wipers do work but nothing else happens

I don't want to throw money at it.
Or have I been sold a dead motor?

Is the immobiliser one that was fitted by a previous owner? If so how do you deactivate it, is there a separate key or keypad?

The immobiliser would be my first place to look.

Hi thanks for your reply.

It has one fitted by one of the previous owners. I do have the fob to deactivate it.

After doing so the ignition lights still do not turn on.

Definitely sounds like an immobilser problem.

Many immobilisers are spliced into the wiring from the ignition switch - remove the lower cover from the steering column and hopefully you will see some of the wires from the ignition switch have been cut and connected to other wires that go to the immobiliser (or if you are really lucky they will be cut and connected to a relay)

If you do have to rejoin any wires then a standard screw terminal block will do as a temporary measure - like THIS

Remove any extra wiring and reconnect the original wires together and see if you get anything.

I would assume that two wires have been cut to install the immobiliser - the ignition "ACC" circuit which provides power to the dash lights and the "START" wire that feed power to the starter motor when the key is in the start position.

Let's hope you haven't got one of the odd trucks that has the immobiliser built into the diesel pump.

Also I have not checked if the power goes to the starter or not.

There are no lights on the ignition and I would assume they need to be on to send power to the starter?

Hi. Just an update.

In this awful weather I opened the panel up and the wires from the ignition lead to the engine bay. I can not see any other connection. The 4x4 is fitted with a Thatcham cat 2.

Andy if you have some time feel free to give me a call. Cheers mate

Hi Andy. Apologies I forgot to message you yesterday.

Right bit of good news. You guys were right in saying the fault could be with the immobiliser and it was after all.

My mate came with a bloke and he disconnected the immobiliser. Then swapped a fuse about near the battery and the 4x4 fired up straight away.

Off roading here I come  Laughing
