Battery Tray in Jnr

Hi, new Junior owner here! Would appreciate some help

I was wondering if it is necessary for the battery to be in the tray? Does it act as a heat shield? The replacement battery I have sourced doesn't fit in the tray so it's just sitting in right now

The battery tray usually has the attachments for the battery clamp as part of it.

It is an MOT fail if the battery isn't clamped securely.
