Depending on your age and driving record, LV. I only paid them £78 fully comp unlimited continental use in 2009. LV seem very trustworthy also.

It's very hard to recommend an insurance company in terms of prices - because it so much depends on your age, where you live, driving record, other cars you own, who you live with, what you do for a living etc. It also depends on what underwriters they have available to fit your profile at that time. The only thing you can do is recommend ones that have good customer service.
FWIW, our 1991 Pajero's on an Admiral multi-car policy, along with a 2004 Honda CRV and a 2004 Subaru Outback. Both the CRV and Outback are the top of the range models (CRV Premiere, Outback 3.0Rn). All three cost about £650 per year in total. The Pajero is about £250 per year - more expensive than the Honda and Subaru which are far newer, faster, and worth a lot more money. However they're UK cars, the Pajero is an import so with a different underwriter. |

Pete 99% of cars in the UK are 'imported', TBH they didn't like you eh
Seriously, I had no issues back then but maybe they have caught a cold on parts for some imports since. IMO there are a host of factors they take into consideration when insuring .............. anything to charge a higher premium |

Mine is with Co-op, about £330 fully comp this time. I haggle with them every year but they've been best for me for about 4 years now |

As mentioned above - whether an insurance company will insure an import (by which I mean one sold originally in a market other than the UK) is down to what underwriters they have available who are willing to take your risk on. This varies from time to time and depends on your risk factors as well. The only thing to do is keep trying every year until you find one that will provide cover. |

I'm with Adrian Flux, £435 fully comp with all mods declared and an agreed valuation of £4000. Everyone else wouldn't touch it either because it was an import, I did too many miles a year (12k miles), it was my daily driver or I commuted to/from work in it. It is my only vehicle. |

Hi all, if it is of interest...
LV insured my 1997 Paj on the chassis number only and they agreed to activating the insurance while the car was still in Holland, where I had bought it, allowing me to drive it home on the Dutch export plates.
At the time I could not find any other insurer who would offer to insure on the chassis number. That includes the 'import specialists' mentioned on these pages who all required a valid UK reg plate.
Now I have that I will be able to shop around for future years which I am looking forward to!
LV were very helpful but as I have no no-claims at all the premium was quite a bit.
Now I am looking for breakdown cover, valid in Europe. Do I hear laughter?
All advice welcome. |

I was with "performance direct" and they were cheap but when I cancelled my insurance with them I was told there would be no refund ( of 6 months cover) due to it being an import and that I would have to pay £15 for a letter confirming my NCB
God knows what they would be like in a claim situation, so think carefully about who you use, its not all about cheap premiums
Caveat emptor
