Going to look at a '57 plate 3.2.DI-DC shoggy soon, any advice on issues to look out for would be greatly appreciated  Wink

The hydraulic chain tensioner was the subject of a recall due to clogging of an oilway, there should be an entry in the service book to show that it has been done or alternatively a dealer can look up the vehicle history.

There is a top guide between the cam sprockets that can wear and fall apart potentially breaking the chain if it falls in the wrong place but the part has been updated and was supposedly fitted to all mk4s but the exact date is a bit vague.

The nylon tensioner blade can wear at high mileages, any rattles from the front end are serious and need immediate attention.
