Hello

I am not a regular poster but would like to thank you guys for being very helpful to me as a newbie.

We have now owned a mk1 LWB pajero for a year or so. In that year however we have driven Gary (had to have a name) from Bristol, England to Singapore. A journey of over 33,000 miles. Through 33 countries. Temps from minus 25 to plus 45. Smooth roads, no roads, 3 ft of snow.

Yes we've had issues, a lot of trips to garages. A lot of fiddling under the bonnet in car parks.

We slept in him for over 100 nights after removing the 5 rear seats and building a bed.  Gary has done everything we have wanted and more.

So thanks to those who offered encouragement, gave advice and even the few who said don't try it in a 1989 pajero. We're in singapore!

So thanks again POCUK.

Yes, show us other Mk1 owners a few interesting moments, and tell us of a few of the truck problems you experienced.

Will post some pics when back to the UK. Have no PC my photos are stuck on memory cards at the moment. Other than phone pics which don't quite do it justice.

Pajero issues, well he was owned by my father in law and only driven short distances for last 5 years. So setting off on 33k miles was hopeful to say the least. 130,000km on clock to start.

Brakes seized. This happened a few times at various points. Most o-rings replaced. Think we have 1 caliper untouched.
Chase rusted through near break lines. This was the start of my hate of Mitubishi garages as they missed it before setting off.
Alternator change in Norway. Someone told me to carry a spare, should of listened.
Clutch died completely. That was expensive!
Alternator diode died in Thailand.
Wheel bearing in Malaysia.

You guys could probably fix most of this on the fly. We did end up at quite a few garages, mostly back gardens of helpful people. Add to this loose battery connections, solenoid starter issues and other bits and that covers it.

Not too much, really. Gary wasn't in the best shape setting off. Parts were much harder to come by in Europe than anywhere else. Loads of mk1s in Malaysia!

Few fires lit under him to heat diesel in Mongolia and russia. But on the whole very good car.

Oh and a new set of tires in kazakstan just before Mongolia. A tyre wrecking country.
