2001 51 MITSUBISHI SHOGUN 3.5 EQUIPPE V6 3d AUTO 200 BHP

This is for sale local to me for approx £3500.

Is it a lot of car for a fair price? .......Comes with 12 months MoT & service history. 63000 miles.

Spec looks fully loaded. Is the Equippe a top of the range Shogun?

What should I look for when viewing it?

3.5 V6 is a big old lump. Cambelt or chain?

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,
I had a 3500 GDI, now I've got a 3.2 DID.
The 3500 was a lovely quiet car but you had to make the engine work to appreciate it,
the result was you'd be lucky to see 20 mpg.
Mine eventually died due to the rusty fuel filler pipe problem. It is virtually impossible to get a replacement fuel pump
which for some reason has a fuel filter built in. I eventually got a second hand pump for £200 but never trusted the car afterwards.
The 3.2 on the other hand is brilliant. I've de-catted it and fitted a tunit unit.
It's a bit louder than the 3500 GDI but a lot quicker, the torque is amazing, from a lot lower down, about 1500 rpm and as for mpg,
I average about 22-25 around town and anything upto 30 on a run.

P.S.
The Equippe was the base model but you could have the options fitted.
Mine is the Equippe but has the climate control, electric sunroof, cruise control, electric folding mirrors
but alas no leather seats.
I hope this helps.

Oh, and the 3.5 is a belt driven engine, the 3.2 is chain driven.

Thanks for the info above.
The Shogun I listed above unfortunately has no service history whatsoever. I phoned before going to view it. Parting with 3500K with no service history is taking somewhat of a chance I think. Cambelt would need changing as well for piece of mind, etc. So more like 4000K.

I'Lloyd keep looking. No rush

What's rust protection like on these motors? especially chassis and suspension areas?

Cheers
Kev.

To be honest...
I've had 4 shoguns upto now.

Mk1 3.5 petrol,
Mk2 2.8 diesel,
Mk3 3.5 petrol,
Mk3 3.2 diesel.

I've never had a problem with rust, apart from the obvious stone chips.
(Saying that, I've always had the cars undersealed and waxoyled and I don't do any serious off-roading.)

The only really serious problem I've found is the fuel filler pipe on the Mk3.
On the 3.5 petrol it can prove terminal, as the first filter is built into the fuel pump.
A replacement pump, if you can find one is very expensive. If the rust particles have progressed past this, apparently
it could cost upto £1,500 to replace the fuel lines.
The Mk3 diesel is more basic but replacing the fuel filler pipe will still, definitely be my next job.

I might sound biased but the 3.2 DID I have now is by far my favourite.
As I said, it may be a bit louder than the 3.5 petrol but...

It's quicker,
More pulling power,
Less temperamental,
Chain driven,
A LOT more economical.

I hope this helps.
Max.

This Saturday I'm picking up the 3.5 Equippe that I originally first looked at.
Hope  it proves to be the right decision.

I've already made enquiries at local mitsubishi dealer regarding a full service plus cambelt change.
Not cheap but necessary me thinks.

Photos to come as and when  Smile

Welcome to the forum Smile

Is there any proof the mileage is correct with that vehicle ? It just seems an extortionately high price to pay for a 15 yo lo wish spec shogun v6 imo

Not wishing to put a dampener on the purchase and if committed I sincerely hope it serves you well for a few years - it's just being a v6 petrol and a low spec pre facelift it seems about 1500 too expensive to me in all reality especially at this time of year

Pretty sure mileage is true. Old MoT certificates back mileage up.

I'm paying less than the asking price  Smile

Spec includes air con, cruise control,  and hopefully some other leccy stuff I've yet to find.

Fingers crossed for Saturday.

Cool hope it all goes well for you then

Mot history gives you some peace of mind at least on the mileage Smile

Fingers crossed for you and look forward to the photos

Well, I've had my 51 plate 3.5 Shogun GDI Auto for two weeks now. All going well so far  Very Happy

I've had a full service done plus a free Mitsubishi health check. That threw up details about a seized rear off side brake caliper. Now sorted with a new one.

Next on my list is to get the cambelt changed. No record of when it was last changed.

How much should I expect to pay for this?........I'm guessing somewhere between £350 / £500 depending on garage etc.?

Any comments?

Cheers,
Kev.
