I've just gotten round to fitting a new cable after 6 weeks since I bought it. Turns out the cable on it would have been OK if the person who fitted it had removed the broken bit that was still jammed in the gear housing. If you want to see what I did with pictures you will find it at http://www.pajerio.com/forum/juniors-story#comment-18654.
I'd do a write up on here but it means putting all the pics on photobucket. |

Something like this looks to be what was used on mine at some stage to get round the problem but the little shaft had broken off and was seized in the drive so while OK to begin with after a few years it would be a possible PITA. Also very costly but then a quick solution I guess. I expect using a directly connected speedo drive will be more durable.

I used a speedo cable convertor, which has a gearing mechanism so that the speedo needle shows mph instead of kph.
I then printed out "mph" on my laser printer (white letters on black) and stuck that over the kph lettering on my dial. |

That is a good way to go. Mine was a real mess and broken which is why I decided not to fit another. I expect it had taken a bash at some stage or some other problem but the shaft was so badly seized in the speedo drive that it took me ages to remove it. |
