|
|
Hi, got a Pajero swb 2.8 diesel, m reg import. Recently the speedo, rev and temperature gauge stopped working. Also not changing into overdrive (auto). Had a local electrician on the case, finally found a fault and removed time clock, as inclinometer had leaked. This worked for about 10 miles, then fuse blew (F11). Left everything out over night, tried the next day, all worked. Drove about 10 miles and fuse blew while driving. I have removed loads of black tape from the loom, wiped wires as well. Dan Ostacchini has been advising via FB but I am back to square one. PLEASE HELP |

Fuse 11 protects the Instrument panel, compass, antenna, buzzer.
Start by disconnecting one of the above, if the fuse still blows then reconnect it and disconnect the next one on the list - continue doing this until you find the one that is blowing the fuse.
Also disconnect the radio / stereo as they are often wired in badly by previous owners.
If the fuse keeps blowing after disconnecting each one then it will probably be a short in the loom which should be traceable with a multimeter. |

Thanks for the advice, is the buzzer below the radio? |

Found it, tucked away to r/h/s of radio near full cap release. Unplugged it and everything seems OK. |

Tell me about it! I guess it doesn't affect anything else working? If I had known where it was before, claw hammer springs to mind... |

It blew again!!! I think the leak has travelled along the loom, towards the switch cluster for the aerial height. I have removed as much trim/instruments to try and dry it, anything else I can do or try? |

It's a strange one - if the fuse doesn't blow immediately then the fault is intermittent and isn't there all the time. I think that there must be a short between a couple of wires in the loom and the usual way to find it is to use a multimeter set on resistance and test between the wires - the problem is that the fault isn't there all the time.
I think that I would unwrap as much of the loom in that area and separate the wires from each other and see if the fault disappears. If it does then you know a couple of wires are shorting together. Not an easy fix if the fault isn't there all the time. |

Thanks, I have noticed two multi point connectors behind the aerial height switch. These are soaked in the oil, so hoping this maybe the cause. Just drying them the best I can, blue roll to the rescue. |

Oil isn't very conductive - but good luck with it. |

Well, I left overnight to try and soak up the oil. Checked it, rebuilt the car (almost) everything seems ok, I will do a road test and report back. |

been out for a drive and all is good, everything working. Just need to fix the inclinometer, tbh I don't care, it lives again. Thanks to all that have helped/advised. If anyone else has similar issues, follow the oil trail!!! |
