I'm not very familiar with your engine - but it seems the top chain guide is the problem part.
I can't see any of the posts on this thread where they changed the chain tensioner. |

Cheers Peteinchad, I have a choice of 3 that I can order after speaking to Melksham Mitsubishi - The cambelt tensioner has been order and here tomorrow.
Which guide
Timing chain loose side guide £60.41
Timing chain tensioner slide guide shaft £12.95
Timing chain tensioner side guide £56.94
Cheers |

Can you just confirm that your truck is a 3.2 DiD.
If it is that model then the dealer would have mentioned the Upper Timing Chain Guide - that is the part that had problems.
What is the reason for changing the tensioner - has the mechanic identified a problem with it?
Is it the dealer doing the work - or an independent garage mechanic? |

To be honest peteinchad, I looked on here and the cambelt tensioner was mentioned, and then went in and asked at Mitis Melksham, they said get the cambelt tensioner first then look at the Guide, but there was 3 and the woman had no idea which neither did anyone else.
Reading this should I bother with changing the cambelt tensioner or just the Upper Timing Chain Guide?
And yes I have a 2006 3.2 DiD |

They mentioned nothing about a Upper Timing Chain Guide, just the 3 above. |

Like I said earlier - I have a different engine to yours, but reading what others have done they only seem to have changed the upper guide. It was known as a fault on your engine.
The link you gave shows the correct part - and it doesn't look difficult to fit
You will also need a few other bits according to an earlier post on this thread:

The component you need is the guide priced at £10.08 + VAT.
In replacing this component we would need to replace the EGR Valve gasket, the EGR pipe gasket, the Rocker Cover Gasket and the seals on the rocker cover bolts.
|
I am not sure why the Mitsubishi dealer has suggested changing the other bits you mention.
Was there a problem with the engine - hence why you took it to the dealer?
Perhaps the dealer has diagnosed a problem other than the upper chain guide.
Did the dealer actually call it a cambelt tensioner rather than a cam chain tensioner? |

Enough slack to allow the chain to cut off the steel mounting plate, could it be due to a chain tensioner issue ? |

Mine's an older model but I always put a new gasket on as they compress over time. |

The rubber gasket do get hard over time along with the rubber washers for each bolt. The main dealer ones are quite expensive compare to eBay prices. I don't know does that reflect on quality. |

I use the ones from Milners - they seem OK and they are not genuine Mitsy ones. |

Milners don't do the sealing washers for the bolts which is a pity. Knew I went to dealer for some reason. I must go through my recipes as bought 5 sets as said I'd have stock. |
