It should be illuminated with the ignition on. It's not wired to the lighting circuit.  The illumination on mine has gone recently, but yet to investigate the cause.  There's got to be a bulb in there somewhere!

I actually don't know?

I bought it beginning of May because I missed having a 4x4 but when I got it home I wasn't really sure if I liked it? Parked it off road till August when I taxed it and drove it about a bit and decided to sell it on in the winter but I was made a good offer the other week so I took it 😃

My friend is buying it for a birthday present for her hubby so ill still get to see it  Very Happy

Last night was the first time I driven it (taking it to the new owners) in the dark and the compass does illuminate just fine lol

So it's a bit of a wasted post lol
