Hi peeps -

I'm having probs with the kick down cable set up.

If I set it to the 34/35mm value it runs worse than it did before!

Any tips or advice will be appreciated (I've looked in the search - no help to me Sad )

Just a thought,

I spent ages trying to adjust the kickdown cable on my 2.8 without success.  Then I realised that the throttle cable had stretched and was really slack.  Once it was adjusted as per the Haynes manual I reset the kickdown to the specified 34-35 mm and all was well - no more dropping down a gear at the slightest touch of the peddle and no more erratic changes.  Adjust the throttle cable first and then the kickdown.

Another thing to consider aswell is resetting the ecu by the brake pedal, which will reset the gears.

I have been told by a certain Mitsu Master Tech that there are, on some, a module at the top of the brake pedal which you can unplug for certain amount of time which resets the gear changing pattern to fresh and then re-adapts to your driving.

There is one on mine and it made a differance when I did my kickdown cable. When I reset it, it was as good as gold.

No,

It should be 34 to 35 mm - see attached pic.  Throttle cable adjustment is covered by the Haynes manual - very easy to do

1995 2.8TD

I was suffering from the constant switch in and out of overdrive and Paj seemed a bit gutless. After reading the forums decided to tighten the kickdown cable from 30mm to 35mm as well as the throttle cable which seemed slightly loose.

For those who were similarly slightly clueless the throttle cable is the one closest to the engine and the kickdown cable on the outer side. The distance from the inner cable stopper (little metal thing on the cable) and the outer cable (end piece where that the dust cover clips over) should be 34-35mm. Simply loosen the nut on the outer side then adjust inner as required.

Wow, what difference it made. I instantly have more power and the 4-od-4-od switch is gone.

Thanks to all who contributed

Many thanks
