Good morning guys, i'm valueing to buy a v55 pajero evolution, fitted with automatic gearbox with sequential mode.
This gearbox should be the v5a51 model, fitted on v60 pajeros since 2000.
As i understood , in full automatic mode the gearbox is auto-adaptive to driving style of driver, but i have some question about tiptronic/ sequential mode:
1) tiptronic will completely override automode, so i can push the gears to redline without auto upshifting until i tip the lever?
2) same as above, if i run to very low rpms and i give gas in tiptronic mode, will the gearbox automatically downshift or it will mantain the same gear until i tip down the lever?
3) in tiptronic mode the "gear changing time" is quite similar to a normal driver with manual gearbox?
4) in tiptronic mode when you upshift the gear you have to take off your foot from the gas pedal as with manual gearbox?
5) using frequently tiptronic mode will short the life of gearbox?
6) is this gearbox reliable with pajero evo engine (280 hp)?
7) there are modifications (oil changing, mechanical or ecu tuning) that make the autobox more reactive and similar to sporty behaviour of pajero evo?
8) in tiptronic mode, you can do a "sporty" downshift (i.e. While braking) or the box will refuse the input because engine will rev to high in lower gear?
Thanks a lot |

yes
2) same as above, if i run to very low rpms and i give gas in tiptronic mode, will the gearbox automatically downshift or it will mantain the same gear until i tip down the lever?
no it will down shif when the revs get too low
3) in tiptronic mode the "gear changing time" is quite similar to a normal driver with manual gearbox?
these were made when tiptronic was in its infancy. So changes are really slow
4) in tiptronic mode when you upshift the gear you have to take off your foot from the gas pedal as with manual gearbox?
no
5) using frequently tiptronic mode will short the life of gearbox?
depends how you drive, but no it shouldn't
6) is this gearbox reliable with pajero evo engine (280 hp)?
yes
7) there are modifications (oil changing, mechanical or ecu tuning) that make the autobox more reactive and similar to sporty behaviour of pajero evo?
not that i know of
8) in tiptronic mode, you can do a "sporty" downshift (i.e. While braking) or the box will refuse the input because engine will rev to high in lower gear?
yes. it will also down shift in auto mode. |

by far most of these cars were made with the tiptronic box
it actually works really well off-road and better than a manual box in sand. So i guess it really depends on what you plan to do with the car, but i doubt you will find one with a manual box easily. |
