hi Guys,
Every now and then the dash light for handbrake (red light with an exclamation mark in a circle) stays on from starting car and normally goes off after car warms up? I never use the hand brake anyway. When it stays off upon starting I've tried applying the handbrake and it works as normal i.e brake on, light on, brake off, light off.
also felt the wheels after a run and all are cool, brake fluid level correct also.
ideas??
thank you |

Is the rubber diaphragm in the master cylinder tucked up properly into the lid?
The handbrake light is also used as a low brake fluid light but if the diaphragm flops down into the master cylinder reservoir it will cause the light to come on. |

Thanks for the reply,
Will check that tomorrow when it's light.. also something that may or may not be worth mentioning is that I've had new wheels recently (400 mile ago)
Thanks |

Changing wheels shouldn't cause it.
There is a photo on THIS THREAD showing how the diaphragm should look. |

Well I finally got round to checking it today and yes indeed sir! the rubber diaphragm was somewhat 'deformed', gave it a quick reshape/refit (as per pic in link) then turned ignition on to see no handbrake light
Thanks again for the fantastic advice on here at POCUK!!

Worth having a look at your brake pads. As they wear, more fluid is kept in the pipes and as the reservoir level drops it pulls the diaphragm down triggering the brake warning light. |
