It was just a 30 to 40 mph drive today.
The digital gauge only reads from 40c up... |

I have been reading up on the way to flush and come across a post about the 'jiggle', I know what it is on the thermostat and that it has to be on the top, but does it have to be in any set position i.e. 3 o'clock? |

Top isn't three o'clock - top is 12 o'clock |

Steady
I meant 'top' as is 'up'. I am assuming that the thermostat on a 2.8 is at the end of the top hose near the engine. OK your 'top' is 12 o'clock for the rotation? |

Thermostat is behind the water pump - in a housing in the short pipe that joins the bottom radiator hose to the engine.
It is fitted vertically so the jiggle pin goes at the top.
Have you got a workshop manual? If not then you can download one from my Google Drive HERE |

Booger!
I assumed (incorrectly) that it was at the top hose
Do you have to remove the bash plate for access to that and the lower hose?
I didn't know that there were three hoses.... I've only bought the two... |

Eh? If you lift the bonnet you'll see the thermostat housing just below the level of the cylinder head. The bottom hose is a long one and it comes up from the base of the radiator onto the thermostat housing. There are only two large diameter hoses - top and bottom.
However to change the bottom hose you will need to remove the bash plate. All very obvious if you take a look. |

I have not looked at it properly yet, I have Bell's Palsy at the moment so simple things are a lot more difficult... |

I am very sorry to hear that. I wish you better soon.
The bottom spigot of the radiator is reasonably easily accessed once the bash plate is off. On mine, it's a little fiddly to get to the hose clamp but like all these things you will work out what tool and access angle works best. The great thing about these vehicles is that there is plenty of room to access everything - at least compared to more modern machines. |

Correction to my earlier post - I understand from Pete that there are indeed two sections of bottom hose on the Pajero as there's a section of steel pipe that's fixed to the block. The two hoses join onto this.
It's different on the Challenger, which I find strange. I didn't expect it to be so. |

Thanks all.
So are you saying that I need three radiator hoses? I thought I had all that I needed, top and bottom. And to get the thermostat off you have to remove a metal pipe? What is that for? The Haynes manual I have is next to useless....
Where can I get this elusive third hose as Milners don't list it. Do I need it? |

I bought a length of straight hose and cut it to length.
You probably wont need to change that one as is doesn't get any flexing so will not go weak like the ones on the radiator.
You may not even have it as your truck might be like Simon's.
If you look at the photo I posted - you may need to remove one of the metal pipes to get the thermostat housing out. Don't kink the metal pipe or you will need a new one - just ease it gently until you can remove the housing. |

Thanks
The way I have fitted it means that by just dropping the glove box and pulling it off the velcro I can install new radio's etc with ease.
It was off ebay, they are not cheap - Fuse Block |
