Hi
My Range Rover has a 4M40 conversion.
Heater plugs rely on driver control with ignition switch delay from ignition on to cranking position
There is a heater plug control relay but no ECU I believe a ballast resistor should be in the circuit.
Ebay sellers want £24 for one.
Can some kind contributor advise me of the spec so I can maybe purchase possibly a wire wound 100W resistor
whose value in ohms I need to know.
At the moment I am putting a near short circuit across the battery putting 12v across 11v heater plugs.
Battery volts drop quite considerably as lots of other operations are going on at the same time.
Many thanks
There are some on eBay that are listed for the wrong models.
On their web site MitzyBitz list it for the 2.5, 2.8 and the V6 (the V6 is a petrol engine!!) HERE
But on eBay they list it correctly as for a 2.5
HERE
Milners list the resistor for use with the 6.2V glow plugs HERE
The 2.8 (4M40) uses 11v/12V glow plugs so no need for a resistor - only the 6.2V plugs in the "Quick Glow" system need the resistor - and that was only fitted to 2.5 (4D56) engines (up to 1993 according to Milners)
