If like me you have found getting rustproofing material onto the top of the chassis rails a PITA, then try this. Get an old pair of thick socks put them both on one hand (nice and thick) then dip your socked hand into your favourite jollop and just stick your hand onto the top of each rail and just slather it on, you can really rub it in well and also reach where a paint brush won't.
I would'nt advise wearing the socks afterwards though |

..., dunno Pete, but it works on black plastic trim , ie the smooth variant + if you do re-use the old socks you will never suffer from rusty toes..... |

i have one of these guns that runs of my compressor, best tool i have ever used for applying waxoyl comes with a nice 90 deg fan spray with a 360 deg cavity sprayer...only down side is you have to de-pressurerise it before unscrewing the lid after using it or you get plastered and only use white spirit to clean it out,but gets in all tight nooks and crannys.... professional waxoyle gun |

I use Dinitrol in aerosols - gets everywhere but needs three coats. |

i used it on my mates under body panels after i did his chassis.. really messy but pleased i put an old tarp down before i started...also used the dinitrol ml on the inside of the chassis rails and cross-members on mine and on his..that stuff is like water but how good it is at protecting the inside i have no idea, but if it finds a hole you have a puddle where it runs out until it hardens up a bit |

I buy a new cheap tarp every time I do it - from Screwfix.
I use the ML first to get in to all the little spaces - leave it to harden for a day and then do the inside of the cavities with the proper cavity wax which is thicker, and the floor with the underbody wax which stays on for years.
The underbody wax is not tough enough for wheel arches though. |

Your missing the point lad's, this is just a quick and effective way of coating the vulnerable top sides of the rails , without a full blown all out attack with compressors and aerosols.., Iv'e got all that gear but it's sometimes not worth all the aggravation of getting them out for such a simple application with no wastage !..., proof is in the pudding, as they say !...

your right Ken socks have loads of uses other than keeping your feet warm,we used to make improvised mines out of them |

simple really stick a block of pe4 inside a sock fill it with dockyard confetti add a detonater attch it to a pressure switch timer etc and there you have a mine crude but effective...socks are also good for carrying water in so long as you use a good liner like a condom or similar.. |

Have it steam cleaned then wire brush it to remove loose rust.
Then spray it with THIS to kill the rust.
Then it needs treating inside the box sections with cavity wax and the outsides with an underseal. I use a Dinitrol kit that contains all you need.
The kit I use is HERE - it contains the rust converter.
With a bit of hard work it is possible to get it to look like my 22 year old truck.
It is the wrong time of year to do it though - it needs to be bone dry before applying the coating otherwise you risk sealing moisture under the underseal. |
