|
|
I know there are a few topics on this subject, but they all seem to refer to gearboxes that are stuck in 4 wheel drive. My car was in 2 wheel drive when the lights started flashing. I took it to a mechanic friend to check it out and determined it goes in and out of 4x4 mode without difficulty, therefore the fault must lie with the sensors themselves, all the stranger as it wasn't in 4x4 in the first place. Can anyone tell me where the sensors are located. It's a 95 SWB 2.8 Paj. Thanks as always. |

Yea, thanks for that. I've read it before. It's a great article, but doesn't say anything about faulty sensors or where they are. |

But is your mechanic friend correct in his diagnosis? There are a number of causes for the problem which are listed in the article that you've read. Has your friend ruled all the others out?

Yes, it does. See for example the section on the Free Wheel Engage Switch. It provides some very useful fault finding info and describes its location. It's also referred to as the Position sensor. |

Yes, quite sure. We checked the system out thoroughly. It shifts in and out of 4x4/2x4 no problem. The lights started flashing when it was in 2x4. It's not as if it was in 4x4 and I tried to dis-engage it. |

You need to find the socket of the Free wheel engage switch located in front diff. Then disconnect the socket, Then see if you will see flashing lights when in 2WD, if still flashing earth the yellow colour wire from the socket and check. (most probably it should stop when you earth the yellow wire - but not 100% sure), What ever the case if flashing stops, problem is with the free wheel engage switch. If not it is with other switches located in the transfer case. |

Nice one. I'll give it a go. My Paj is 23 years old and a lot of the electrics are giving problems. It may just be a bad connection. Cheers. |
