Mine had a funny smell too so i decide to remove the front and back carpets ..the back one is easy .But the front one is a little more work .you need to remove all the door /sill trim and the seats plus the centre console so it,s a few hours work . but worth it i think .plus i fitted some sound proofing for good measure .also if you can get hold of a upright carpet cleaner that will do the trick . |

It might be worth trying a good clean before removing the carpets. Though maybe you`ve tried it already. The carpets on my lwb Mk 1 Paj were truly disgusting and stank of dog and goodness knows what else.
On the basis I had nothing to loose I saturated them with fabreeze, let it dry (it removed a lot of the smell) then as I was still not happy with the result. I soaked the carpet in industrial carpet cleaner, scrubbed it, then hoovered up the water with my old Hoover Aquamaster. The colour of the water coming out was disgusting. I splashed more water on and hoovered again. I did this on a hot sunny day and the residual dampness dried up very quickly,
Another quick hoover (dry) the following day, brought the carpets up quite nicely. The end result is not perfect but it is one hec of a lot better than before and doesn't smell!
Not nearly so much work as removing the carpets. Good luck whatever you decide. |

I used a carpet cleaning vacuum, simply fill with water, detergent, and just vacuum as normal.
The amount of dirt which came out was amazing when i looked at the colour of the water which came out, and they are nice and clean and look like new. |

Cheers for the reply guys. Well my car has been used by its previous owner to go to the stables and tow a horsebox so as you can imagine its a bit mucky inside!
I thought about doing all of the above but i don't own a carpet vaccum cleaner, but i got a hoover type but thats useless for this application |
