I have this problem with my recently acquired Sport.

The supplying dealer eventually took it to Mitsubishi and they diagnosed new transfer case switches needed, which they are having done.

I have read that you can also remove and clean them.

Used the 4wd a couple of times, a few days later the lights disappeared and have not come back on .....YET

I had the same issue and changed the transfer case switches at 50 quid a switch and did not solve it. I found another switch on top of the front axle box. This was faulty and disconnected. The 4x4 light oes not flash and the ABS light does not come on after a couple of miles as before. You need to check which 4 x 4 system is fitted to your vehicle as there are some differences.

This problem irritates the hell out me... The ABS light sometimes (not often) comes on but can be extinguished simply by engaging 4WD and back out again... the transfer box switches are the main suspect but I'm not going to drop the box to change them nor pay £350.00 for a Mitsi dealer to do it for me.

Has anyone tried to break into the wiring loom and by-pass the transmission switches so they dont send a signal to the ABS ECU or even do something with the wire at the ABS ECU or is that not possible ? seems daft to have an ABS light come on due to a faulty transmission switch  Rolling Eyes I've never seen a wiring diagram for these circuits so dont know for sure whats possible

any advice ?

thanks mate... a quick read through looks like you are covering my problem so I'll take a closer look and let you know How I get on... could you send me a photo of your hands  Laughing to see if its realistic for me to access the switches from above ? I just dont seem to be able to get access. now I can see the layout in your pictures I will be able to visualise what I am currentlt blind-feeling from below.

Hi,

Can anyone help me??

My vehicle is a 2004 Shogun Sport 3.0 V6 Automatic (no super select)

I have the flashing green 4WD light when in two wheel drive and I think that the front diff is not disengaging when the transfer lever is in 2H. When in 4H the four wheel drive works fine and the green light is on solid.

I have checked the vacuum pipes that go into the diaphragm valve that operates the actuator pin on the front diff. When in 2H both of the pipes have a vacuum suction and when moved into 4H both of the pipes have no vacuum suction.

I was under the impression that one of the vacuum pipes, disengaged the actuator pin when in 2H and the other engaged the actuator pin when in 4H. Can anyone confirm if I am correct on this?

If I am correct then why are both solenoids opening and both producing a vacuum when in 2H but neither producing a vacuum in 4H?

Any help or explanation would be greatly appreciated.

OK, so veering slightly off topic:

My 2005 V6 Shogun Sport developed an issue where the ABS seemed to kick in when parking or going at walking speed. (This was around the time my mate fitted new front pads). This meant initially that the ABS light came on intermittently, and then permenantly and I just disconnected the ABS until recently when I decided to get new tyres and fix it for winter.
My mates several digs systems were unable to read the ABS computer, though could read the engine codes OK. He said he thought the control unit might be knackered so I looked up a local Mitsi specialist with a proper diagnostic machine and went round. He found 30+ codes on the ABS! Said, don't worry I'll clear them and we'll drive it up and down. Turned out that the rear passenger sensor thought the wheel had locked at below 5mph so was kicking in a little ABS action. Bought new sensor off ebay guaranteed for two years, fitted it in 10min, boom, no ABS light and ABS seems to function OK!

BUT, since doing this, the ABS light on the dash does not illuminate on ignition for a few seconds as it should, and doesn't light when I skid to get the ABS to work!?!?!?

Any ideas before I have to go get it on the computer again??? I tried a cheep ODB2 thing on my phone, disconnected the battery overnight, but still no ABS light, ever!

So, I went to get proper diagnosis from Mitsi approved garage locally, they did it free and said that the rear lh wheel was appearing stationary at below 5mph so the ABS was kicking in.
£13 for a pattern part (guaranteed for 12 months) and after 10 min of fitting, the ABS seemed to function normally and no longer kicked in at low speed but worked fine in skid conditions. HOWEVER, the ABS light was not lighting for a few seconds on startup, then appeared to do so very faintly. This made me think connections so I opened up every connection n relay plug, cleaned and sprayed with GT85, a light oil and water dispersant I use on my bikes, and this has much improved the brightnesss of the lights.
One of the two relays right by the ABS unit bolted to the body just in front of it (the one nearest the front of the car) was particularly badly corroded, so extra clean and a light tap with hammer seemed to almost restore normal ABS light behaviour. I've found a replacement on ebay (new, in packaging, original part) for a tenner and ordered it.
Anyway, reports are that the main ABS units on these trucks RARELY fail and it is almost always sensors or relays/dodgy electrical connections. My advise, find a friendly Mitsi authorised place with proper diagnostics. I'm now taking my V6 there in Jan for a full belt and cooling system service (inc cambelt), £480 inc an extra hour 'just in case' and they'll check the car over whilst they are at it.

Also fitted Maxxis 771 tyres to standard rims, they are brilliant tyres.
