Would attaching the wire to the bodywork be feasible to extend the range i.e. using the whole body as the antenna? |

The body is connected to battery negative - ie earth. So that wouldn't be good at all for improving reception |

Actually there are ways of using the body as an antenna, but it's not a very good shape or size for sending or receiving radio signals at the frequencies alarm remotes operate at. Just getting the antenna out of the big metal box is sufficient - which is why most aftermarket alarms have their antenna in the engine bay (which is effectively open at the front and bottom) |

Just thought I would do a quick write up to help other folk.
Step 1 - Locate Cobra Alarm Interface (the location is in the front kick panels - which I will let yous to work out yourself)
Step 2 - You will see a Black or a Red wire tagged Antenna
Step 3 - Use a 20AWG wire (I bought it from Maplins)
Step 4 - Solder one end to the Black Antenna wire (or Red) from the Cobra Interface and then insulate (I used shrink wrap)
Step 5 - Run the wire all the way up to the A Pillar
Step 6 - Shave 2mm of the wire so that the copper is exposed
Step 7 - Either tuck the wire behind the rubber trim with the copper bit exposed (what I did - and no you cant see it) or behind the plastic trim and place the wire so the copper bit touches the glass (what I did initially) both locations gave me good results.
NOTE:- The Antenna wire should not touch the body
Hope this helps.
I have attached a photo to help (just pulled the copper bit out a bit to show in the picture)

I'm new to the forum and just got a 2004 3.2 lwb. The whole key fob range thing was a pita so after one days ownership and googling I found this forum.
I extended my antenna up the a pillar then along under the headlining by just pulling back the door rubbers. I put about 10 foot of extension in and made a coiled loop around my fingers a few times which I pushed into the area above the rear seats.
Remote now works from about 20 foot away like a normal car should. |

I followed the latter solution above and it works a treat! I used the second fix as I figured it was better to have plenty of wire. Just in case I had to go for the initial suggestion. Simple fix to an extremely frustrating short coming of these vehicles. Brilliant guys! Thanks. |

Is it not behind the kick panel? - just in front of the door |
