Hi,

I own a 94 SWB 2.8 TD which I have had since 2006, it's done over 300,000 Kilometers... it's a great car.

The problem I have now is general oil and fluid leaks, from the engine and various places underneath, dripping on my drive and the parents, which isn't cool.

I suspect it would be quite pricey to fix all these leaks and was wondering at what point do you say, enough already?

Is it time to trade in the ol girl for something a little newer, just wanted to get some ideas from the forum.

It is my only car, so it's not something I use just for off-roading, I use it daily.

Your thoughts would be handy.

Cheers.

Mike.

why not spend an afternoon washing down the engine and underneath, then see how bad the leaks are before you decide. Could be something simple that's spraying everywhere while you drive then dripping from various points Wink

Hi Vijay,

Yeah no worries, I'll have a look and see how bad they are.

I can see that the rocker cover is leaking oil through the oil filler cap and one of the seals on top, which implies some sort of pressure.

But I'll have a look and see how bad the others are.

Thanks for the advice.

I would take off the rocker cover and wash out the breather filter on the inside.

Use petrol and flush it out thoroughly and then let it dry before refitting.

If the breather is blocked then you will get oil forced out of all sorts of places due to a build up of pressure.

They have a positive crankcase pressure system so yes there is pressure there, I would agree with Pete, clean the breather out as they get clogged up with time and use.

I used to get something very similar with my previous Vauxhalls.  Changing / cleaning the breather filter in the top of the rocker cover on those cured the oil leaks and helped the engine run better
