I wanted to do the above but saw that the mounting brackets that came with the lamps were a bit flimsy and didn't want the lamps vibrating on the car.
So I had an old set that were on the car originally that I replaced because they were faulty. (Don't ask why I kept them)
So I decided to try and mount the new lamps inside the original lamp housings. That way they could be fitted the same way as the originals.
Firstly I wire brushed the adjusters then sprayed them with release agent. I grabbed the very end with crocodile mole grips and worked them free, then simply unscrewed them with a screwdriver. I soaked them in oil until the rest of the job was completed.

Once removed, I slipped the wiring out of the slot in the bracket, and swung the lamp away. Then slid the plug from its holder.

Next job was to remove the back of the lamp so the lamp could be removed from the bracket and the insides would be visible.
Some of the screws snapped off but there were enough to complete the project.

The insides are held in by sealant and in order to get a screwdriver under it to lever it out, I had to smash the lens to allow it to flex enough.

Once it was broken free, I turned it over and knocked the insides out from the back.

Seems brutal, but it worked for me. Then turned it back over again and cleaned away the old sealant.

Then it was time to give the housing a bit of a rub down around the front with emery paper and a touch of black spray paint.

I also did the mounting bracket and back plate.

I marked the rear of the lamp to indicate where the securing hole was and measured the distance from the front so I could drill holes in the housing to secure the lamp in place.

I fitted it all in and drilled the back plate for the wiring plug to stick through. Then fitted it back in place threading the 2 halo wires through the small hole already there. Screwed the plate on, after fitting the lamp to the bracket and then refitted the adjuster screw.

I then joined the original plug to the new lamp to make wiring easy to the car, and refitted the wiring to the slot in the bracket.
Job done.

I hope this is useful to others who might like to try the same thing.
Good luck guys, and thanks for reading.
