Hi iv just bought a 52 plate shogun sport 2.5 it has an oil leak , it’s been sat for near a week and still dripping oil out , the leak looks like it’s been going on for awhile with the mess it’s made . I have just replaced cam cover and half moon as they look to be part of the problem but it must be something lower down as the truck hasn’t run in a week.....Any ideas ?.

Also my shogun is on 150k miles what viscosity oil should I use , planning on 5k changes to help squeeze high miles out of her.

Thanks in advance

Could the alternator oil vacuum feed pipe leak with out oil cuitculation? I’m stuck as to where the leak could be coming from.
It’s all down the drivers side of the engine starting by the looks of it under the exhaust manifold.

It is difficult to diagnose where oil is leaking from on a forum.

The best way of finding it is to thoroughly degrease the engine (I use aerosol degreaser from the local car accessory shop)

Leave the degreaser on for a few minutes and then wash it off with a garden hose making sure you don't completely drown the alternator.

Once the engine is clean then you will have a better chance of seeing where the oil is leaking from.

Totally agree with what Pete writes above. You can't locate an oil leak until the area is clean.

Once it's clean a good tip is to liberally dust the whole area with talcum powder.  This shows up fresh oil really well, and of course makes the engine smell lovely!  Wink

All cleaned down and the cam cover leak has definitely stopped , I also found the oil filter to be loose so now iv just ended up with a small spot of oil a day on the drive I’ll continue to search.

Well done. Of course it could have been residual oil from the rocker cover that was still working its way down.  But that loose oil filter must have been a candidate too.

Found another one too , leaking from the bottom oil cooler pipe on the bracket to the body must hold water there, looking through the forum this is common.
