What ive noticed is that mine has the 3 light syndrome
Will change the alternator shortly to see if that improves it as mine certainly runs better without too much electrical things on in the cab. When mine is jumping at the lights I noticed the faint 3 lights which are on are more evident (Only from cold). Reads somewhere its the alternator throwing Alternating current to a DC system so cant be good for the ecu.
Will update you when ive changed the alternator.
Mine run fine for a week but now its back again
Its a very annoying fault which to date has not been solved.
We live in hope that someone will find the fault
Thanks

Put a New alternator and aux belts on today. ( because im convinced my old alternator was spiking Alternating current)
Started it up and it sounds different on tick over now ( Different tone if that makes sense)
Done the idle relearn and took it for a run ( Run well didn't splutter once)
Left it for 4 hrs and started it again and it idled perfect from cold.
Now Ive spoken too soon on many attempts to fix this fault then the pajero kicks me in the butt.
So I will say lets see how its goes over the coming weeks to see if the pajero starts playing me up again.
Will post again if its starts its nonsense again .
Fingers crossed

Jeff,
My truck is having a new alternator fitted today. Whilst the alternator has been duff it has run very well, sadly not charging the battery. Will keep you posted and others on the site.

saying that my alternator has just died a death wouldnt start sunday and when i recharged batts 12.6v so im about to get a new genny aswell, from what i can see with a mirror the label says 596002EM and under that 991900T3A got this using a mirror and a torch so think thats about right, it has the mitsubishi corporation on it as well so is proberly the original.
What numbering does your alternator have on it as i need to get the right 1 for the motor.
I changed my front fuel pump seal a couple of weeks ago made a huge difference to the point of it has 1 or 2 very very slight chuffs when i 1st start it from cold and is fine when warmed so in my case deffo had a fuel pump seal issue and i found that out because i thought i will try changing the fuel filter see if that makes any difference and as i usually do i pour filter into a glass jar to put into the new filter saves pumping the primer for 10mins lol and it was BLACK and stunk of oil so theres only 1 way oil can get into the fuel line and thats thru the front seal of the fuel pump. |

Jeff,
Had a new alternator fitted. The hunting problem has ceased. My guess is that the old alternator was not converting the current fully and as stated the ECU was not happy with this. Hopefully this is an end to this particular problem no doubt there will/shall be others to rectify.

Jeff,
I am hoping that the batteries are going to be unharmed as I have only very recently purchased two new ones. The batteries were how I found out that the alternator was duff. New batteries and I had to get a jump lead start one day.
I always place my batteries on charge after I have run any of my vehicles to keep them up to spec as the mileage which I do annually is small. Let us hope that all is well.

Mine just started doing it again, so will have a look at alternator but if it is tied up to that don't understand why it stops when taken out of drive. such a frustrating fault. |

Had a bit of a set back this afternoon when I popped out in the truck. Slight return to the old problem. I shall have to see how it reacts when I go out for a drive tomorrow.

Just come back from a 45 minutes run with no problems. So where does that leave me? Go with the flow I reckon. Just one electrical issue and that is the dash board lights still dim when I put on the side lights?
Having no test equipment the truck will have to go into the electricians. As it happens it will be going in for a radio issue so I can ask him to take a look at the self dimming dash board. Dont you just love these trucks?!
